Food Safety for Pregnant Women

According to the U.S. Government Health and Human Resources (https://www.foodsafety.gov/risk/pregnant/index.html), when you are pregnant, your immune system is reduced, so you and your unborn baby are at an increased risk of contracting bacteria, viruses, or parasites that cause foodborne illnesses. Foodborne illnesses during pregnancy could lead to premature birth, miscarriage, severe health problems or even death in newborn babies. Some foodborne illnesses, such as Listeria and Toxoplasma gondii, can infect your unborn baby even when the mother does not feel sick.
