Guidelines in Ontario regarding mandatory eye ointment

Effective January 1, 2019, the Health Protection and Promotion Act: Regulation 557 Communicable Diseases - General, allows parents to opt-out of the mandatory eye treatment to infants to prevent Ophthalmia Neonatorum caused by sexually transmitted infections including gonorrhea and chlamydia, provided their health care professional attending the birth is satisfied that there is no serious risk of transmission to the infant.
